Welcome to Our
Isle Royale Adventure
Isle Royale National Park is one of the least visited national parks in the United States, and that is exactly what makes it so special. Located in the northwest corner of Lake Superior, this remote island archipelago is only accessible by ferry or seaplane, which keeps the crowds away and the wilderness intact. My parents and I are planning a week-long backcountry camping trip to Isle Royale, entering and exiting through Rock Harbor on the east end of the island. This website documents our planning process, the trails and campsites we intend to explore, and the incredible wildlife and natural beauty that draws hikers and outdoor enthusiasts to this unique destination every summer. Whether you are an experienced backpacker or someone who has never heard of Isle Royale before, we hope this site gives you a sense of what makes this place worth the journey.
What You Will Find on This Site
This website covers everything we are putting together for our week-long backcountry trip to Isle Royale. The Planning and Gear page goes over how we are getting to the island, what we are packing, and what you need to think about before heading out to a place with no stores or services. The Trail and Campsites page talks about our route out of Rock Harbor, the campgrounds we are looking at staying at, and what the trails are actually like out there. The Wildlife and Nature page gets into the animals and ecosystems that make Isle Royale such a unique place, including the wolves and moose that the island is famous for. We put this together for anyone thinking about making the trip or just curious about what Isle Royale has to offer.
