Photo Categories
We accept submissions in three categories of outdoor photography.
The Outdoor Adventure Photo Club sorts all photo submissions into three main categories. Each category has its own theme and its own winner during each round of voting. When you submit a photo, make sure you choose the category that fits it best so it can be placed correctly. If your photo could fit into more than one category, just choose the one that best matches the main subject of the picture. Below are descriptions of each category and what we look for in a good submission.
We chose these three categories because they represent the different experiences people have when they spend time outdoors. Some people enjoy photographing the animals they see on the trail. Others focus more on scenery, like the way the light looks over a lake at sunrise or sunset. There are also people who like capturing the action of being outside, such as paddling a canoe, hiking through the woods, or standing on a cliff overlooking a lake. All of these experiences are part of being outdoors, so each one has its own category in the club.
Wildlife

The Wildlife category is for photos of animals you see while spending time outdoors. This could be anything from a large animal like an elk on a ridge to something small like a bee on a flower. The goal is to capture interesting moments with wildlife. Good wildlife photos should show the animal clearly, be in focus, and have decent lighting. Close-ups of birds or insects, photos of mammals, fish you caught, or other animals you come across outdoors all count. The main idea is that the photo should focus on the animal.
Landscape

The Landscape category focuses on the scenery and natural features you see outdoors. This can include things like mountains, lakes, waterfalls, rivers, forests, sunsets, fog over the water, rock formations, and other views where the environment is the main subject. The goal is to capture scenes that make people wish they were there. Good landscape photos usually use natural light and strong composition to draw attention to the scene. While sunrise and sunset lighting can look great, photos taken during cloudy or foggy conditions can be just as interesting. Campfire photos and night sky shots can also fit in this category. The main idea is that the landscape or scenery should be the main focus of the picture, not people or animals.
Action and Adventure
This catergory is all about people in motion. It is less about the scenery alone and more about the experience of being out there. Think of photos that show the effort of a tough hike, spray of water paddling or the quiet moment of setting up camp. The goal is to tell a story and show what it actually feels like to explore the wild. It is not just a person standing there; it is about the person interacting with nature.
